Solana Beach, Encinitas OK sand replenishment
http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2015/oct/15/solana-beach-encinitas-ok-sand-replenishment/
This is good news not only for those of us that enjoy our local beaches but also and especially for ocean front property interests. I sat through the actual Council Meeting on 10/14/2015 where this was approved. Some good questions from the City Council members as well as a few that seemed time wasters in my opinion. The back and forth on the US Army Corp of Engineers Environmental Impact (EIR) Study was quite long (maybe 1.5 hours). Still, there was excellent information being debated. Furthermore, I absolutely respect all Encinitas City Council Members for their efforts and especially the Engineers and other Professionals involved with the exhaustive study. (I suppose I’m biased as my wife is an Engineer )
I was actually there to lend support for a good friend and fellow dad in regards to the FINAL Let’s Move, Encinitas! Pedestrian Travel & Safe Routes to School Plan http://www.cityofencinitas.org/index.aspx?page=346
Frankly, I think more time (and I know it will likely happen) needs to be spent on this (let’s Move) subject.
HOWEVER ! I love the beaches and have been surfing and enjoying Encinitas beaches since a few years before the 82-83 El Nino. These are BOTH important issues. In fact, I was happy to see an old past acquaintance/friend very thoughtfully give his opinion on why the sand deal should be approved (it was of course). This gentleman has an incredibly beautiful home on the oceanfront. I am on his side and have been probably even before he owned his lovely home (well maybe ;-).
Lots of work done that night and I consider it a privilege to have witnessed it. In a future post I’ll point out some of the important points regarding the Let’s Move project and how critical it is for the safety of getting the kids to school.
